I use IMAP and have mutt with offlineimap in my laptop and my phone has an IMAP client. E-mails show up on both places, so I have access to my entire e-mail from both devices.

This is not a mutt specific question, but more of a infrastructure one. If want to access the same e-mails with more than one device, IMAP is definitely the way to go.
