Thanks. TIL some more about utf8. When the pointer is ontop of a 
cahracter, vim shows me the character value as '0x3C5', which is the
'unicode code point'. On the utf8 chartable it is noted as 
U+03C5 and the according utf8 hex is 0xcf85.
