sidebar_format Not Showing Number of Unread Emails

Hi everyone,

happy new year to all of you!

I have a small issue with sidebar_format that I cannot really sort out.
If I set this sidebar_format

	set sidebar_format = '%B%* %n'

Mutt highlights the folder with unread messages, but does not show the
number, but no count at all:

     fortran-lang |1497 F │ 24.12.21 14:12 │ ...
     help-make |1498 │ 24.12.21 15:16 │ ...
     lfortran |1499 r F │ 26.12.21 18:04 │ ...

If I use

	set sidebar_format = '%B%* %N'

correctly shows unread counts for all mailboxes:

     fortran-lang 1│1497 F │ 24.12.21 14:12 │ ...
     help-make 27│1498 │ 24.12.21 15:16 │ ...
     lfortran 0│1499 r F │ 26.12.21 18:04 │ ...

I cannot make it work to only show the number for the mailboxes count
 >0. I have also tried

	set sidebar_format = '%B%* %?N%N'

to the same effect. The mail_check_stats variable is set as it is
supposed to be.

This is with Mutt 2.1.5 (see below). The same seems to happen with Mutt
1.13.2, so I really think that I have messed up, but I do not see where.

Thanks in advance for looking at this.

Kind regards,
         -michael
