Quoting character when replying

Hello,

Speaking about ways to improve the email experience, I've realized there
is a little thing that is bugging me for some time already and I haven't
been able to find the solution for.

For a very long time, I had mutt to prepend quoted text from emails I
was replying to with the greater than sign followed by an space, which
was great.  At some point I must had done something that changed that
behaviour to prepend it with just the greater sign (>) without the
following space.  Now I manually add the space on every paragraph I keep
to reply, which is (not hard to do in Vim, but) annoying.

I haven't been to find how is that set up in my .vimrc file or
directions on how to change that behaviour.  Any pointing to the option
to set or to some directions to find out how to solve it, please?
