Yes, I believe this is the problem. nofreeze-c72f740a.patch was added
to the OpenSUSE src rpm on December 7th. That file seems to be the
combination of several commits in Mutt, but misses some important parts
of 758d406ede97ad627ab804ab049e77396d18746c.
This will lead to the behavior you describe - eventually the parser does
not work. I'll see if I can find a contact or some way to file a bug
with them.
(On the plus side, I did see an old patch in their src rpm that looks
like it should be applied, dealing with large file support.)
