Translation questions for de.po

Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is the right list. I contacted Olaf Hering and he
told me that this would be suitable.

Aeons ago I did an update for mutt de.po and when I tried to trace down a
wrong string (which turned out to be fixed already in the latest
version) I noticed by looking at de.po quite a few differences to what
I would expect. Olaf encouraged me to update the file and submit
it, however, before inestigating the time (I translate a lot for
Debian and uptream man pages) I would like to check a few fundamental
issues.

1. Is there a word list for German?

2. I would try to use German words where sensible, is this ok? E.g.
"Username" is quite fine translated into "Benutzername" (this is a
   string right at the beginning).

3. Is there a convention regarding quote signs? In the translation
projects we tend to use »«, but „“ is also possible.

4. Once I provided the update, is it fine to send it here? Is there a
   proofreading step included somewhere?
(If not, I would contact another active German translator and mutt
user if he would be willing to proofread the file)

Thanks for clarification!

Greetings

            Helge
